Epilator- Friend or Foe?

I've heard about epilators but it never crossed my mind to buy or look at one. I normally just couldn't be bothered and occasionally go to the saloon to get my waxing done. A friend of mine introduced the world of epilators to me when she was in Dubai and she got me thinking and desperately wanting to own one myself!!! haha. She said its really good and hers lasted for about 5 years now and its still working and serves its purpose! Its not cheap for that tiny thing that looks like a shaver but in a more sophisticated/ high-tech look. But after being convinced that it will last a long time, its definitely cheaper than spending on waxing!

In case u are not sure about epiltators. Epilation refers to removal of hairs from below the skin's surface. Epilation devices currently strive to remove the entire hair from the root using mechanical extraction or laser removal. It is the most effective method for temporarily removing hair. Waxing is the most effective method of epilation because it removes hair completely from the hair shaft in large quantities.

Epilation is refers to removal of body hairs, by means of electrical device, tweezer, or wax. Epilation may be performed by a dermatologist, but is more commonly done for cosmetic purposes by a facial technologist or esthetician.

Epilation is a mechanical method of plucking hairs. The original and most popular epilation device is the Epilady. Epilady has remained a leader in the development and consumer satisfaction for electronic epilation devices.

I did my research which is the best epilator to buy- the most effective and cost savings. There are so many brands and types in the market and so many opinions on this epilators. I guess its a love-hate relationship. U either love the product or u'll just use it once and throw it! some even describe epilators as "torture device"

After much research browsing through blogs/ reviews- I finally decide to take my chances and get my new toy. yay!!

Advantages of epilator

•Buying an epilator is a one-time investment and is inexpensive in the long run
•No need to go to salon or a specialist, you can do at the privacy of your own home
•Easy to use and convenient.
•Suitable for removal of large areas of hair esp. legs
•The results last longer and the regrowth of hair is slower.

Disadvantages of epilation:
•It is a painful procedure of hair removal.
•It can damage body areas with thin skin like the face.
•It functions poorly on curved surfaces, such as the underarms.
•The process is slower, as it cannot pull many hairs at one time.
•The razors become blunted after frequent use.
•You need to grow your hair otherwise epilator won’t be able to grab the hairs
•Many people find it painful method

I went to Sharaf DG to look for the epilator. I was prepared to get a good but inexpensive ones but when I got there, I got so confused (soo many model/ brands to choose from) and ended up purchasing the expensive and the latest Braun Silk-épil Xpressive epilator! *shake head*

The reasons for choosing this model

I like it because it has the rechargeable option. The cordless models give you the freedom to epilate in comfort wherever and whenever desired. In my personal opinion, it would be better to have it cordless because I do not have a power cord in the bathroom and I don't think i would epilate any other places but the bathroom!

Its wet & dry - being a really clumsy person- i guess this option is inevitable for me! In case u didn't know, I broke 2 of my cameras in 3 months. *sobs* So, I guess I would pay a little more just in case. hehe

It has SmartLight-Integrated light to reveal the finest hairs.I'm not sure whether this is really useful but I guess it helps when you plan to do it in the dark or when the house blacks out! hehe. Can probably use it as a temporary torchlight! haha

There is 2 types of package u can purchase. 1 is the starter kit (only comes with the underarms cap) and another more professional kit (come with underarms cap, shaver and trimmer cap and facial head) I bought the cheaper one and it cost me 385 dirhams compared to 500 plus if i would take the pro kit! Its good enough because I don't think i need the trimmer cap and the facial head for my face. Didn't want to spend too much just in case its too painful to use!

Came home and got really excited. Fully charge the device and went on test drive. GOSH!! the sound its sooooo scary!! LOL! First tried it on my legs.. 1,2,3.. go!!! Seriously, its not too bad!! It's not as painful as people claim and curse! Maybe because I do not have super ultra sensitive skin.. I don't know, but its definitely bearable! Then, I tried epilating my arms.. just a little bit of the pinching sensation but nothing serious. It feels more like having an electric shock! haha! Then, tried my underarms and bikini line, still not too bad. I can feel the device is pulling my hair out from the roots and it did a pretty good job! My arms, legs, underarm feels really smooth and I absolutely ♥ it!!

The only problem I had with this model-Braun Silk-épil Xpressive 7 is that the lock keys- where u can choose to increase or decrease the speed is kinda troublesome. I would definitely prefer if its turn up or down button instead of turning it clockwise or counter clockwise to off it. I've never tried any other epilator, hence I have nothing to compare it to but I'm just glad that this works out for me! :-)
